SPECTRA ART: The Spectra Art program is beginning its tenth year a Brookfield School! The classes are a wonderful compliment to your child's education and they are enjoyed by .The program is a joint effort between the PTA and the Brookfield School Staff. The PTA funds the program through the $50.00 per student per year art fee. This entire fee is used by the PTA to purchase supplies and other art materials for theSpectra Art program only. Parent volunteers and Brookfield staff teach the classes.I will explain a little about the program for those of you who are new to Brookfield. The Spectra Art curriculum consist of lesson plans and supporting materials for each grade. In the early grades, the lessons concentrate on the basic elements and principles of art:line, shape, color, space, form, texture, balance, repetition, rhythm, movement, contrast, emphasis, unity, and variation. The curriculum is progressive from grade to grade, so thatlearning is reinforced as skill level grows. In grades 5 and 6 students begin to focus on thecontent, styles, and history of art. Holiday projects are not included in the program.Projects for all grades include: painting, drawing, clay, textiles, collage, sculpture, printmaking, masks, puppets, and mixed media. Classes are held every other week, during the school day. They last one to one and a half hours and consist of an academicintroduction with slides, a hands on art projects and an evaluation. The preschool classesare on staggered days, so that even part-time students receive at least one lesson a month.Typically, the classes begin in October and run until the end of May.
