AUG. PARENT LETTERS

Aug 15, 2007

Dear Brookfield Families:

We are looking forward to another academic year full of having fun, learning new material, and making friends. We wish to extend a welcome to the new families that are joining us this year. To our existing families, we are excited to see you back, and ask that you assist anyone looking lost or confused on our first day.  Ms. Bettingen and the summer staff had a great summer.  Not only did the students do academics Monday through Thursday but they also enjoyed productions and field trips weekly.

We had a busy summer at Brookfield in terms of updates and changes with the facilities!  It is exciting to state that the list of changes is so numerous that we will only list the most major. We updated the school with new paint, carpets, computers, and flat screens.  We then removed the Mac-lab in order to remodel a classroom and increase its size, so check our newly remodeled room # 7. The most fantastic site improvement is in the computer lab, if you get the time please check out the updated computer lab in the basement.  8th Grade and Science moved into room # 4 and a sink was added to the room to more easily facilitate science lessons.  Our Great Room has fresh paint and new carpet – WOW!

We are sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Baldwin, but are excited that she has become a new parent.  To Mrs. Amira, Mrs. Bain, Mrs. Gallagher, and Mrs. Switzer we also sadly say goodbyes and wish them well, as they have moved away from Reno. Ms. Bergevin is now with the county and we wish her success in her future endeavors. Mr. Lienau will not be teaching for us but is available to provide intelligence tests to students on an individual basis.  We are pleased to welcome new faculty and staff joining our Brookfield family, and we have increased the number of Brookfield staff with Master’s degrees. We have added another third grade and that means that their will be two grades from Pre1st- 3rd this year.

Mrs. Snyder, our librarian, has spent the summer upgrading the Accelerated Reading program to be online.  This is a great improvement as the children will now be able to read over 11,000 selections that were previously unavailable.

Additionally, our Gifted Youth Math Program from Stanford University (EPGY, an online computer program) will continue this year for all eager, qualified math students. The program has improved and will be web based, allowing you access from school or home.  We will be offering an EPGY / Brainware Lab for accelerated math or cognitive enhancement.  Look for details in September to sign up.

Also, improvements in curriculum have been made school wide.  Exciting new textbooks include: Math for Pre-K, Health for Pre-1st, Literature for 4th, Penmanship for 1st - 8th grade, Literature and Science for 5/6th, and all new Science, English, Algebra, Geometry, Health and Latin books in 7th and 8th. PTA is in full swing and will be greeting everyone on your first day.  They are working hard on generating school spirit. Let’s go Brookfield Bears!  We are looking forward to another GREAT year with your continued support!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Johnson
