Re: Fall Enrollment 2008-2009 FEB 5. 2008 Dear Brookfield Parent, This has been an outstanding academic year. All the children learn and grow in amazing ways, and we truly enjoy watching them develop. Choosing independent private education for your child is a sacrifice and we honor your commitment to quality and a worldly vision. A large international 4th grade reading study was completed in 2006. The 4th grade reading scores were evaluated and the US sample average score for a private school student (561) was higher than the average score for a public school student (538) for the combined reading literacy scale. If the private school scores had been the average for the US, we would have been in the top tier of international performance. US private school scores were surpassed only by the Russian Federation (565) and Hong Kong (564). (1) In a June 2002 report, NCES (National Center for Educational Statistics) found that private school students scored higher on standardized tests, had more demanding graduation requirements, and sent more graduates to college than public schools. The report said that students who had completed at least the eighth grade in private school were twice as likely as other students to graduate from college as a young adult. NCES statistics also showed that students in private schools are more likely than others to take advanced-placement high school courses.(2) For more information on the advantages of private school please visit the Council for American Private Education, www.capenet.org.Brookfield School is committed to creating an atmosphere that inspires life long learning. We nurture each student to reach his or her fullest potential through small class sizes, excellent teachers and high academic standards. Providing the highest quality of education for each child is always our first goal. Your commitment for the next school year allows us to plan the next year’s budget and secure your teachers’ positions. Next year’s plans were recently discussed at a December parent meeting and will be discussed again soon, continuing the parent input process. Last year we asked you for testimonials and have included many in the re-enrollment packet. Again, we are asking you to include a few thoughts about our school, teachers and curriculum on the fall enrollment form. Look for a testimonial book in the main office, and a testimonial wall is posted at TLC. Last year’s Stanford Achievement Test scores are enclosed. When compared nationally Brookfield School is in the top 10% of all US schools. This year the fall enrollment fee will be $440. This fee and a fall enrollment form are to hold your child’s position for next year. These funds are not tuition deposits; they are used to improve the schools technology, and buildings and grounds. During the spring and summer of 2007 improvements to both campuses included: a new security and phone system, new fencing, carpeting, interior and exterior painting, and a new $48,000 computer lab. Please return the enrollment form and fee as soon as possible to help ensure your child’s position for the 2008-2009 academic year. Fall enrollment will begin on now, and ends on February 29th. The enrollment forms will be processed in the order received. Many classes are very likely to fill quickly, as they have done in the past and priority will go to full time students. Once a class is filled, further enrollments will enter a wait-pool. After a minimum number of students have enrolled into the wait-pool, a second class will be formed. Don’t panic, as soon as there is a new class we will send you an acceptance letter. A paid fall enrollment fee is required for an acceptance letter or a wait-pool letter which will be sent in early March. If a position is not made available your fall enrollment fee will be refunded in June. TLC students will have priority placement in Pre-1st (Kindergarten), but we urge you to let us know quickly. Our tours have already begun for potential new students. On March 1st, the enrollment will open to new students for class placement or wait-pool positions. After March 1st, on both campuses the enrollment fee is $650 for any existing or new student. Class placement decisions are made by administration. Some placement considerations are: a loyal commitment, academic performance, student behavior, learning style, teacher recommendation, attendance, siblings, gender balance, and financial accounts in good standing. We make a sincere effort to honor your requests without being able to guarantee them. All students on tuition assistance must submit the fall enrollment form and fee on time. Please read your additional letter with specific information. A 2008-2009 tuition assistance form must be submitted with enrollment by February 29th. Remember tuition assistance is limited and new families can now qualify for assistance. We have a successful campaign offering scholarships to strong academic students. Our current academic scholarship and tuition assistance programs comprise about 9% of the revenues. Enclosed are; the Fall Enrollment Form, Fee Schedule, 2008-2009 Calendar, Public Versus Private School, Curriculum/Testimonials, and Brookfield School-in the top 10% of Schools in the Nation with Stanford Achievement Test 9th edition (see enclosed chart of reading and math). All enclosures are also available on our website ( www.BrookfieldSchool.com) The Consumable fee includes: workbooks, instructional materials, national testing, art and science supplies, and it is billed each July 1st. The Enrichment fee includes: instructional costs of Art, Music, Drama, Physical Education, and Foreign languages and it is billed each October 1st.Upcoming events include: Kindergarten (Pre First) information meeting at TLC. You will meet the Pre First teachers, see the curriculum and see the Pre First Schedule. This will enable you to make an informed decision. As your child advances, classes engage in more enrichment activities. Please sign in at the office before any observation. Tours may also be scheduled. We encourage you to come any time to visit our classrooms on either campus. We also have a parenting class in progress and invite you to come and experience Love and Logic. Mark your calendar for March 18 to come to Science and Invention Open House. In conclusion, there will be limited class enrollment and for any additional existing students that enroll after the first classroom is filled, will be added to a wait-pool. (For example the first eight students of each sex will be enrolled for a class of 16 students. The ninth child of each sex will be wait-pooled). We will not automatically assume your child is enrolled in the next grade. Any late enrollment after March 1st will be charged the higher fee of $650.00 We welcome visits from you at any time; please call or e-mail ( Brookfield@gbis.com) if you have any questions.Sincerely, BROOKFIELD SCHOOL
