At Brookfield we have over 16%  of our students in First - 8th Grade enrolled in the advanced math program.  This is just the beginning of computer and on-line education available.

We are now in our 5th year of this program.

EPGY In The Schools Program

The Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY) offers computer-based distance learning courses in mathematics, physics, and expository writing to elementary, middle, and high school students of high ability. These courses grow out of over 40 years of research at Stanford University.

Since 1993 EPGY has made its course software available to schools and school districts. EPGY software can be used at school to supplement existing classroom instruction or to provide courses that a school does not presently offer. Schools can use their own instructors or they can use EPGY’s instructional staff which can provide support for courses from the K-8 to the University level.

School contracts generally cover an acadmeic year although provisions can be made to pro-rate costs for a shorter  period. To qualify for a school contract, a district must be willing to enroll at least 4 students into the program for an academic year. These students need not be at the same grade level, and they do not need to move at the same pace. In addition, there is no extra charge for students who cover more than one course within a school year. In fact, students may take as many courses sequentially as they can get through while maintaining passing grades.

EPGY curriculum is provided through CD ROM or On-Line format which allows students to work offline and then email   completed work to their instructor. Students who demonstrate ready mastery move quickly through a course, while slower learners receive additional instruction. EPGY instructors provide support by telephone, electronic mail, and through a virtual classroom. These instructors will answer student questions, grade tests, and provide a final grade and Stanford transcript for coursework. Students gain credit for EPGY courses through Stanford's Continuing Studies Program (CSP).  If the school chooses to use their own instructors, the school will then be expected to provides grades and transcripts of it own.

EPGY courses allow gifted students to take courses suitable to the level of their ability, regardless of the availability of such courses locally, and in a way which is minimally disruptive to the rest of a student's school experience. With these courses schools can meet the educational needs of their most advanced students without having to send those students to local high schools or colleges, and without having to hire special instructors to teach courses to small numbers of students.

*This pricing reflects our “billed-per-quarter” courses. The courses in the EPGY pre-university level mathematics, computer science and introductory physics sequences are billed on a per-quarter rather than a per-course basis. This means that the tuition does not cover the costs of a course per se, but rather covers a unit of time, usually one quarter (3 months). During this time, students may cover as much material in the mathematics curriculum (through Calculus C) as they can. If a student completes a course mid-quarter, we will register the student and send the materials for the subsequent course at no additional tuition charge (although registration and shipping fees will be charged whenever a student begins a new course). Students who have not completed a course by the end of a quarter may pay tuition for an additional quarter, or an amount of time appropriate for the student to finish a course.

If you are interested in “One-time-fee” courses, such as our University level courses, compare the cost of those courses combined to the single yearly price using the group rate. The cost savings in these courses will depend on whether students can complete courses in the recommended time. For example, a student who takes a year to finish Linear Algebra would actually spend more on a group rate rather than an individual rate. But a student who can finish the M52A-M52B-M53A sequence in the recommended completion time of one academic year would receive a considerable savings under the group rate.
