Brookfield School |
Brookfield School is a co-educational day school for 200+ students. Serving pre-school through eighth grade. The school was founded in Sacramento in 1962 and opened in Reno, Nevada in 1978, and serves a diverse student body. The school is committed to the educational needs of the community. Brookfield School is an academically challenging school with a learn-to-read, all day Kindergarten, which we call Pre-First. KEY FACTS ABOUT BROOKFIELD:
General School Curriculum

Small Math groupings based on ability in 4th-8th
grades .
·
Math Lab expanded into before school care, based on a
University model, has been going for four years now with very positive results
in promoting math fluency (speed and accuracy) .
·
For a third year (2005-06) we have about 15% of our
students working with EPGY (Educational Program for the Gifted Youth) from
Stanford University in math. Several
students have progressed to the next grade in 2-3 months.
Ms. Dorsey a certified teacher offers individual instruction and
computer assistance.

Small Reading Groups in the lower grades.
·
Reading Lab designed to mirror national research
based models. It has been
extremely successful in putting children on the path of fluent reading well
before the 2nd grade.
·
Accelerated Reading has dramatically increased
students reading comprehension skills by 1 to 2 grades since September. We are
able to track the student’s progress using the computer diagnostics ‘STARR’.
The PTA and individual parents have continued to improve the computer program
by adding more AR tests and books in the library.

The Latin program is very popular with the 4th
through 8th grades.

Spanish instruction beginning as a trial program for
2nd grade and 4th –8th grades as an
elective.

French instruction beginning in the Pre-kindergarten
and Pre-first through 8th grade.
·
Hands-on-Science for all grades has been expanded in
our weekly schedule.
·
Formal PE program on campus, optional Lakeridge
Tennis Club with a coach for 6/7/8th Graders.
·
8 great years of Chautauqua, this enhances all
students public speaking skills.
·
Spectra Art improvements school wide because of our
Art Director, other parent volunteers, and professional art teachers from VSA
Arts of NV .

Junior Achievement Programs teaching economics by
parent volunteers. Middle School Improvements

Exciting activities have been planned for Reno’s
best middle school grades preparing for their high school experience:
overnight retreat with ropes team building, cooking, orienteering, community
service, photography, art, and drama.

Expanded dress uniform option for 6th
through 8th grade girls.

More lockers donated by parents and PTA
in 2004-2005. Technology and Student to Teacher Ratios

Every year we have expanded our technology program.
Each classroom has access to high-speed Internet computers, giving
students and teachers quick and easy research capabilities.

Main campus student to computers ratio is 2:1.

Student to certified teacher ratio is 13:1 main
campus and student to teacher ratio is 5:1 for TLC Campus.

Entire student to Staff ratio on main campus is
9:1(includes enrichment teachers and aides). TLC – Toddler Learning Center

Growth from 2 Pre Kindergarten classes to 4 classes
(2-3 year old classes and 2-4 year old classes).

We have added mathematics, science, phonics, French,
Dance, Music and computers for our 3 and 4 year olds.

“Mommies and Me” is an introduction to the lively
social and academic world of Preschool. The
