CAREER DAY WOW! - A big thanks to Mrs. Lawrence who arranged career day. We had: Veterinarian, Archeologist, Geologist, Meteorologist, Engineer, Fire Department, Sheriffs SWAT van, Sheriffs Raven Helicopter, Sheriffs Dogs, and Sheriffs Motorcycle, Audiologist, and UNR Track Coach. Our Thanks to all parents who came in and volunteered their time. 

SPECTRA ART - On the back is a parent survey to return to the office. Students are also being surveyed to see how the program ran this year. 

YEARBOOKS ARE IN! - $15 pick up in office. Please put students name in book. 

SUMMER CAMP DISCOUNTS! - Details for the field trips will be complete soon. Ask to see the fun planned. Discounts are provided for students and families that sign up for 4 weeks or more. Look for teacher referrals for summer program will be coming home. Teacher referrals will also provide for a discount with the registration deadline extended. 

NEXT YEARS TRIP - EASTERN SEABOARD FOR 10 DAYS! Pick up information in the office. Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Washington DC, and Williamsburg. This is a bus tour down the eastern coast and is not a fixed date. Student Rate is $1,751 and Adults are $2,056. Please email the school if you are interested and we will start an email group to keep potential travelers informed. We are planning travel between Feb. and April 2006.

We are very excited to have the event at the Siena Hotel and Spa downtown again this year on Thursday, June 16th, 5:00 pm. Our annual all school awards banquet is a great opportunity to see your child receive an award and to meet all the teachers and other parents. A dance will follow the dinner this year and all are invited. Adults are $28.00, 6-12 yrs. old are $15.00, 5 and younger are $5.00. 

FRIDAY AFTER CARE - All after care will be at the TLC campus this Friday June 10th. Please call if your student will be attending. 185 Redfield Parkway, 825 - 3003. 

THURSDAY ALL SCHOOL PICNIC AFTER CARE - We will schedule after care for the Picnic to start on main campus at 2:30pm with Ms. Reddin for any families helping to drive other students and wanting to leave early. The Awards Banquet starts 5:00 pm so please pick up as early as possible. 

FRIDAY AFTER CARE - JUNE 17th. There will be no afterschool care from 10:00 am on at Main campus. Please call if care is needed, arrangements can be made at TLC. 

VACATION CAMP IS ALMOST FULL! - Call Ms. Brumley up for June 20th - 24th Vacation Camp in the office if you need care before summer camp begins. 

ALL SCHOOL SKATE PARTY! It will be on Friday, June 10th. The Leadership Council has reserved the King Skate Roller Rink Roller Kingdom, 515 E. 7th St, downtown Reno from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Skate rental is $2.00 and bring money for snacks. Parents will need to transport. 

ANNUAL ALL SCHOOL PICNIC - On Thurs., June 16, all grades will start @ 9:00 am and depart soon after. Everyone is welcome to join us for the year end picnic. A field trip form will be going home today. PTA will supply the barbecue which will include hamburgers, hot-dogs, and drinks. Students are asked to bring: Preschool - 2nd - Desserts 3rd - 8th - Salad or Vegetable trays Volunteers will be needed to drive, cook, serve and clean up. We will need everyone coming to take students in their cars to get all the student body to Bowers Mansion - Comstock South Pavilion in Washoe Valley. Let your teachers know if you can drive so they can tell us if we have enough rides for their class. Also, Olympic Day is to be held at the picnic, so good shoes are recommended. If you want to swim, pack a suit and $3.00. Swimming starts after 1:30 pm. Return to school between 3:00 - 3:30 pm. LAST DAY OF SCHOOL - It is hard to believe that the year is almost over. June 17th friday students come to class from 9:00am to 10:00am to pick up report cards, say goodbyes, and sign yearbooks. There is no after care on this day.

ACCREDITATION TEAM - We would like to thank all the teachers, parents, and children who participated in our accreditation process. Dr. Blau, and Mr. Jackson were very impressed with the quality of our school and will take a recommendation of accreditation back to the national board. 

BOOK DONATION - A big thanks to Mrs. Creger who donated the Edge Chronicles series to the library.

MAIN CAMPUS MOTHER'S DAY TEA - A big thanks to Mrs. Gookin, and everyone who supplied tea pots and trays! Leadership Council sold almost 80 flowers. 

LET'S TALK - We are planning for next year and reviewing this year! In response to your surveys, we feel their is a need for more exchanging of information. All parents are invited to come and visit with Admin. on Thursday, May 12th in the Library, at 12:00 Noon. Bring a brown bag lunch. Ice tea and cookies will be provided. Any suggestions or ideas to be considered for the agenda may be submitted to the office.

The National Independent Private Schools Association (NIPSA) will be on campus and wish to talk with parents, students, and staff.

ALL SCHOOL SPELLING BEE - Great work to all students who won in their classrooms. Leah Shelton was our 1st place winner, Varun Prasad was 2nd and Slade Glavish was 3rd. 

HANDS - ON - ALGEBRA - We have used Hands-On-Algebra successfully in the upper grades and this week, Mrs. Lawrence is introducing this program to Mrs. McKernan's 1st Grade. The program clarifies the concepts of Algebra by using manipulatives to understand equations. 

RENO PHILHARMONIC YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - A free concert will be held on May 14th at 7:00 pm, Nightingale Concert Hall at UNR - Misha Raffiee plays as Associate Concert Master. 

TAE KWON DO - Our Brookfield Tae Kwon Do class with Master Wheatly, has tested and promoted both Brandon and Andrew Welcome to Blue Stripe level. Way to go!

SNOW SURVIVAL FIELD TRIPS - We have some survival tips on this newsletter. 2nd - 4th grade had a great experience and the 5th-8th grade will go today. 3rd Grade had a great field trip to the State Legislative session and witnessed democracy in progress. 

COOKING CLASSES - 7th and 8th grade just completed the class and on May 17th and 18th for 5th and 6th grade. The students will go to the Nothing To It cooking school for two classes 2:00-3:30 pm.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS! MRS. GOOKIN'S CLASS, RYAN 6th, MISHA 6th, RYAN 7th, and DAVID 8th - They all won awards at the Western Regional Science Fair. Mrs. Gookin's Pre-1st Class won 4th Place for What does a plant need to grow?. Ryan R., for Does a single candle inside a snow cave raise the temperature?, Misha for Temperature Inversions and Ryan S. for Airfoil Design: Swept vs. Straight. All won NAVAL SCIENCE awards. David S. won 4th place for Ň Bread Mold vs. Preservatives. Ryan S. also placed 1st for Reno Air Race Foundation and won a trip to Space Camp complements of the Reno Air Race Foundation. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!

BOOK FAIR - Great Book Fair! Thank you very much for everyone's support in volunteering to help run the fair and purchasing books. Our total profit was over $1,500. We have used half the money to purchase teacher requests for books and the remaining will be used for more AR tests and AR books.

Please get your vacation camp reading logs in. During the month of March Brookfield is encouraging students to TURN OFF THE TV and READ! Please check for a reading book in your childŐs backpack. Reading/Writing buddies with other classes will be happening. DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) will occur during the school day. The class with the most AR points earned during the month of MARCH will earn pizza and a free dress day. 

ALL SCHOOL FREE DRESS THIS FRIDAY! TSUNAMI RELIEF - Wow, the whole school has earned a free dress day this Friday, March 4th. The classes of Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Fullerton are the top winners who earned a free dress day designated by the teacher! Our school raised over $1,000. RE-ENROLLMENT! - Re-enrollment for fall has started. Reserve a seat for your child for next year. Different from past years, we are closing classes when full and a wait list will be started until there is enough students to open the second class. This will help keep all classes at their optimum small size and promote individual stand alone grades. Classroom observations are always welcome.  SKI / SNOWBOARD SIGN UP STILL OK FOR FRIDAY- Mt. Rose is still taking new and existing ski/snow boarders. Please sign up for the next 5 week session by tomorrow. LET IT SNOW! We really appreciate the snow clearing around the schools by the Douglass family.

 THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED WITH THE SCHOOL MUSICAL - Brookfield's Holiday Spirit, What a hit! Thanks to all who put in extra time to make the show such a big success. Staff Changes: We are saddened by the departure of both Mrs. Reilly, who has become a Head Start teacher, and Mrs. Marche, who decided it was best for her family to retire. Kyla Allen left to go back to school, but will return when her schedule permits. We are very excited about our new hires! Miss Friscia is our new Computer Supervisor and After School Care Director. She has a Masters in English and Creative Writing. Ask her about her ideas to enhance creative writing during the students computer classes! When scheduling is complete, she will teach English to the 8th graders and Creative Writing to the Upper Grades. Ms. Bercowetz has returned to us for Morning Care and Teacher's Aide during the day. Mr. Long has joined us in 2nd Grade taking over for Mrs. Marche who has retired from teaching. We are sure the students will love Mr. Long and all his enthusiasm for teaching! Please give him our best Brookfield welcome and any help he requires to become acclimated to the Brookfield way. He will host an Open Room for parents, Jan. 19th at 3 to 4 pm. Mrs. Paradis has joined our TLC Teaching Staff at TLC to teach a preschool class. She has spend 20+ years in early childhood and has her teaching certificate! All students must attend lessons to continue the privilege of attending this program. Please park in the rear church lot and plan to take as many children as possible, to assure all have rides and to reduce the parking congestion at Mt. Rose. Parents who did not complete all forms will accompany their own children to Mt. Rose to complete forms. Parent drivers are responsible for other children they drive from the time they leave school until they are returned. Children can be picked up at the school from 4:30 to 5:00 pm. Drivers please call if delayed. Anyone who is not able to drive, or ski children who are sick, need to call the office Friday morning. HELP! HELP! HELP! Please wait in the great room the first Friday of skiing until all students have a ride or your car is full. With the snow break we have not had time to call each driver and ask to help, but many students need a ride and we try to match up friends from the class. Please ask Ms. Brumley before leaving each Friday, if there is room in your car.

GIFT WRAPPING - A BIG THANKS TO PTA and ALL THOSE THAT HELPED! - Leadership Council made and sold cookies and hot cocoa. PostNet in Sparks had all the shipping handled and the facility was perfect. Leadership Council will receive some of the proceeds for attending and helping. 

CONGRATULATIONS! - The Nutcracker performance was last weekend. Our own Julia Cashell performed in this popular Nevada production. Great job Julia! 

SCHOOL MUSICAL - 'A WORLD OF WINTER', This all school (TLC - Preschool through 8th) musical production will be in the church next door Thurs., Dec. 16th promptly at 6:30 pm, please arrive by 6:15pm. All students will wear dressy outfits. Pre-First students will need a winter hat and scarf as well, to be brought to dress rehearsal on Thursday. 4th and 5th grade boys wear dress pants and shirts. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys may wear white shirt and dark slacks, at the very least. BAKE SALE - The Student Council will be having a bake sale on the evening of the musical. Please donate a treat for the sale, and be sure to take home some holiday treats or gifts. FOOD DRIVE - Thank you for your donations! The food was delivered last Friday to the Nevada Food Bank.

 SKI PROGRAM DETAILS FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY - All skiers will be released from their class to the GREAT ROOM at 11:30 am to have lunch and change. READING LAB, STILL ROOM! - Morning Reading Lab started Nov. 15th @ 8:15 - 8:45 Mon. - Thurs. taught by Mrs. Fullerton. The Nov./Dec. Session costs $100.00 for five weeks of instruction, Any parent of a 1st or 2nd grader needing reading strengthening, please call to secure your child's position in this session. Further sessions will open to Pre-1st students. The sessions are priced based on $5.00/day. Please don't delay. There is a limited enrollment! 

MATH LAB, MATH LAB, MATH LAB - is for all ages. Math games and races are used to promote math fluency skills in thinking, writing, and speaking. Mrs. Curtis will lead the children in this fast paced fun class. Wed.-Fri. mornings from 8 to 8:30 am. This research based class is great! First session started today, through Dec. 17. The cost for five weeks is only $50.00. If you have not signed up already, please call the office. Scholarships are available in the office.

All parents are invited to our Friday Assembly on Dec. 3rd to see some Chautauqua presentations. Information should be coming home next week. Please see your teacher to find out when your class will be performing.
