RE-FIRST (KINDERGARTEN) &
PRE-SCHOOL0 TODDLER LEARNING
CENTER (Below)
What Are The Aims Of Pre-First Our Pre-First attempts to give our children an education appropriate to their individual state of development. This will be satisfying to them in the present and will prepare them for the years immediately following. The development of all powers-physical, mental, emotional, and social are included. This goal is accomplished by carefully tracking the progress in self-concept, self initiative, attitude, verbal response, acceptance of others, interaction, and participation. Brookfield encourages a developmentally appropriate program: Individually appropriate - Each child is a unique person with an individual pattern and timing of growth. We are responsive to and honor a child's individuality and unique differences such as personality, learning style, family background, and cultural heritage. Child Initiated-Child Directed - Children carry out an activity as they see fit, but within a framework provided by the teacher. This does not mean children should be allowed to do anything they want and anytime they want to. The purposeful nature of the child initiated activity distinguishes it from the random activity. Allowing the child some control and choice over what happens also causes the child initiated activity to be distinct from its chief alternative, the teacher directed activity. Teacher Supported - We create an intentional and planned context or framework for learning, providing materials and activities consistent with what we know about how children learn and the specific needs of individual children. Teachers become a resource and facilitator to children to help them learn "how to learn" rather than being the source and giver of information and knowledge. This is an all-day program (9 A.M. to 3 P.M. Monday through Thursday; 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. on Friday), a learn-to-read program, with small classes, certified teachers. Before and After-School Care available. Our Program is at 185 Redfield Parkway to visit more on the site click on one of the links below.
