February 15, 2005               WOW LOOK AT THIS!

EARLY RE-ENROLLMENT INFORMATION

Dear Brookfield Parents:

We appreciate all that your children have contributed towards this very successful academic school year.  Last year our objectives emphasized daily math problem solving and math fluency. In our commitment to raising our standards of excellence we have enhanced curriculum improvements in many areas. Most noticeable from last year is our Math SAT test scores from April 2004 as you can see from the table above. With the enhanced math curriculum in all grades you can see from the chart that our school scored on an average of 91 % (top 9% in the country!).  This year’s focus is on science and writing skills.  This year we are celebrating our 40th successful year.  From our long history we can assure you that the Brookfield approach and philosophy (traditional curriculum, small class size, and direct and cooperative instruction, and certified classroom teachers) is a recipe for success.

Some of our outstanding program and curriculum improvements:

We are able to track the student’s progress using the computer diagnostics ‘STARR’. The PTA and individual parents have continued to improve the computer program by adding more AR tests and books in the library.

Our first priority is ensuring you, our existing Brookfield family uninterrupted, superior educational experience.  Enclosed with this letter is a 2005 – 2006 academic calendar based on the 180-day school year and schedule of fees. We will be offering an early re-enrollment for a 30-day period (Feb 15 to March 15) to allow first priority for our current families. To help with your decision, please feel free to schedule any classroom observation. Brookfield TLC families are welcome to meet with our Pre-First teachers (Kindergarten).  With enough parental interest we may offer pre-first at TLC.  Please mark your preference on your re-enrollment.  We encourage you to discuss the curriculum with administration or our teachers. We are very excited to announce an Open House for you to talk with your teacher and see next year’s curriculum and teacher. The Open House will be held Wednesday, April 6th, from 5 to 7 pm on main campus.

During this re-enrollment period, fall classroom teacher requests will be considered.  Administration takes into consideration learning styles, teaching styles, age, family loyalty, family requests, and classroom gender balance for final student placements. Teacher assignments are completed early August and are published in our Back to School Packet mailed mid August.

Our planning for next year has already started. Over the years class census has ranged from 12 – 16 children.  The average class size has been 12.  Our intention this year is to limit class size throughout the campus. We will begin accepting new applicants as space allows after March 15, 2005.  From our best assessment several classes will fill quickly and late or new enrollees may be placed on a wait list.   We want you to have a fair opportunity to secure a fall position. Grades that will have limited openings are: Pre-Kindergarten, Pre-1st, Second, Fourth, Seventh, and Eighth. Therefore clarification of fall enrollment is necessary to keep all the class sizes in line with our intention of offering both stand alone small classes and individual student attention. Submitting re-enrollment forms and a fee by March 15, 2005 requests a fall position. We can’t place you on the fall class roster unless the re-enrollment forms are returned. Forms will be date stamped for placement priority. After a class has filled, a wait list will be formed.  The $300 re-enrollment fee is nonrefundable unless placement cannot be made by Brookfield . If you have been placed on a wait list, re-enrollment fees will be refunded.  When a new class is opened you will be informed and enrollment fees will again be required to reserve a seat. Please read the details on the enclosed re-enrollment form and Admissions and Placement Policies for 2005 - 2006. Families may take the summer off ensuring fall placement.  We need your attention to this matter because a new list of applicants has already started.  On March 15th new student applicants will be enrolled to fill any available classroom positions.

All partial scholarship students may re-enroll in good faith by submitting a re-enrollment form, scholarship application and fee. The re-enrollment fee may be paid on a payment schedule, if needed.  Newly revised scholarship forms and support documents need to be submitted by March 25, 2005.  Brookfield School and private donors provide moneys for tuition assistance.  This provides an avenue for parents, who demonstrate a need, and want to continue their child’s education at Brookfield School . The new tuition assistance form is available in the office.   Tuition assistance scholarships are confidential and separate from admission decisions. Late Scholarship Applications may not be considered. Families or businesses interested in supporting the scholarship assistance may do so by contacting Mrs. Johnson.

Remember, Brookfield is an invitational school, and each year we reserve the right to select on behavior/academic basis.  This assures all students will experience the best learning environment possible. Teacher/Administrator recommendations, families taking their financial responsibility very seriously, and of course, space availability will be taken into account as well.  Just as important, is the behavior of the parents as they add to, or subtract from, the overall general positive and cooperative climate of the school.

You will be notified by mail of your placement status after receipt of each child’s re-enrollment form and fees.  Of course, all enrollment decisions will be conditional upon a successful finish of this school year and fulfillment of your financial obligations.  An enrollment denial, for any reason, will result in a full refund of the enrollment fee. Please read details on the enclosed re-enrollment form and Admissions and Placement Policies for 2005 - 2006.

Your family is important to us and we appreciate your support of and of your commitment in your child’s educational future at Brookfield School . Your family is what makes our school a big family; each class has typically over 40% students with siblings in other classes.  We know the sacrifices you make for your children are huge.  A solid, strong education helps to safeguard your child’s future. New research has again shown that early academic success is indicative of future academic success. Early reading programs are now backed by research.  Brookfield has a traditional early reading and full curriculum that has a 40 year proven track record.

It is very important for the academic child to be challenged with a small, fast paced classroom.   Our approach is keeping the student stimulated and excited. The Brookfield philosophy challenges students to working above the national average providing an academic edge for your child in today’s global society. We know you value education and want the finest possible preparation for your child’s future. Your teacher knows that each child has special gifts, and that growth occurs by identifying these gifts and building upon them.

You are always invited to visit our campus at any time.  If you schedule a time Mrs. Murray will give you a personal tour.  Brookfield profile is unique to Reno .  We encourage you to learn about our curriculum and philosophy and observe learning in action.  We are proud of our institution and want you to choose Brookfield because of our academic excellence. We are Reno ’s oldest, finest, accredited, private, independent school offering Academic preschool through eighth grade.

Sincerely,

  Mrs. Murray, Admissions Director
