Brookfield School Cancellation Policy
In the event of inclement weather, we ask that you tune in to local TV, radio, and Facebook for the latest news on the Brookfield closure status. Please be sure your email, cell phone, and home phone are current in ParentsWeb. We use the Parent Alert system through ParentsWeb to place a phone call, cell phone text message, and email for important notifications. We will also update our Facebook page. We will try to notify our families by 6:00 am the day of school if the school will be in of a delayed, or cancellation. If we do not send an alert, we are not closed or delayed. Please review the Brookfield policy on school delays and closures.
-- STATE OF EMERGENCY: For all other closures, such as wind, rain, fire, or flood, we do not automatically follow the Washoe County declarations. We will notify our families by 6:00 am the day of school whether or not school at each campus will be in session. The school property or surrounding area may not be safe.
-- DELAYED START: In regards to delayed starts and early releases, we do not automatically follow the Washoe County declarations. We will consider all of the information available and notify our families as soon as the decision is made.
Academic-Only 2-Hour Delay: If possible, we will enact an academic-only two-hour delay. We will make every attempt to provide child care at each location as scheduled, with instructional learning possibly delayed for 2 hours. Our walkways and driveways will be hazardous, please take extra caution and enter at your own risk. If poor weather continues on that day, it is possible that only childcare will be provided. If the middle school building is not open, please take your child to the elementary campus.
Full 2-Hour Delay: If the staff is unable to open the school for childcare, there may be an all-school two-hour delay. If this occurs, no students may be brought to the campus until two hours after the regular start time. We will notify what type of delay we are having in the message to parents.
FRIDAY DELAYED START - FULL DAY: If there is a delayed start on Fridays, Elementary and Middle School will conduct a full day, releasing students at 3:00 pm or 3:30 pm instead of 1:00 pm.
-- EARLY RELEASE: If the Washoe County School District cancels school AFTER our school day has started, we will make every attempt to keep our school open. However, if conditions worsen dramatically, we may call for an early release and request that children be picked up.
