The Data in Context

  • 2024 NAEP Report shows just 30–39% of students nationally are proficient in math and reading.
  • Brookfield students in every grade exceeded those levels—often by 15–25+ points on MAP and STAR.
  • With updated norms that now set a lower national benchmark, Brookfield’s sustained high performance reflects both resilience and excellence.

What Is STAR?

STAR Assessments, developed by Renaissance Learning, are nationally normed, research-based tools used by thousands of schools across the country to measure student achievement and growth in reading, math, early literacy, and more.

These quick, adaptive tests:

  • Adjust in difficulty as a student answers each question.
  • Provide immediate, actionable data to help teachers target instruction.
  • Offer national percentile rankings, grade equivalents, and growth scores to track student progress over time.

Brookfield uses STAR multiple times a year to ensure students are progressing as expected—and to intervene early if support is needed.

About the NAEP (Nation’s Report Card)

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the largest continuing and nationally representative assessment of what U.S. students know and can do. Often called “The Nation’s Report Card,” it tracks student achievement in core subjects like math and reading over time.

The 2024 NAEP report highlighted national learning challenges in the wake of the pandemic:

  • Only 30–39% of students reached proficiency in core subjects.
  • The achievement gap between top and bottom performers continues to widen.
